The Upper Dolpo Trek is an adventure-packed journey that takes trekkers to the most remote areas of mid-western Nepal. This off-beaten trekking route offers an unforgettable experience of the natural and cultural richness of the Lower and Inner Dolpo Region. During the trek, you'll witness the isolated and unspoiled region beyond the Himalayan valleys, featuring diverse landscapes, high pass trails, the turquoise Shey Phoksundo Lake, and the ancient Buddhist Bon religion. The trek starts with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and Juphal, passing through the amazing settlements of Dunai, Chhepka, and Chunuwar to reach tranquil Phoksundo Lake, one of the prominent features of the trekking region.

 

The Upper Dolpo trek trail is an eye-catcher, with fascinating local Dolpo people who maintain a self-sufficient, rustic lifestyle influenced by Tibetan culture and tradition. The trek offers a chance to witness and learn about their proud Bon religion. After a wonderful stopover at Ringmo village around the pristine Phoksundo Lake area, the trail moves to Shey Gompa, another highlight of the trek. The trail traverses through impressive high passes of Nagdalo La, Sela La, and Chhoila La, offering some of the most mind-blowing vistas of river valleys and snow-capped mountains. Further exploring the remote landscape, you continue your trek toward Dho Tarap Valley, one of the highest settlements on the planet.

 

The Upper Dolpo trek is a four-week journey that immerses trekkers in the wilderness of the Trans-Himalayan region of Nepal. The trek concludes in Juphal, with a flight back to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj.
