The Makalu Base Camp Trek is a popular choice for experienced trekkers, as it takes you to the fifth-highest mountain base camp in the world. You will be trekking in the Makalu Barun National Park, which is rich in Himalayan flora and fauna, and home to animals like the snow leopard, red panda, and black bear. The trek offers stunning views of mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Baruntse, and Kanchenjunga, as well as lush green forests, high waterfalls, and deep gorges. You will also have the opportunity to traverse high passes over 4,000 meters and visit the holy Kalo Pokhari Lake.
During the trek, you will get an insight into the rich mountain culture and tradition of rural Nepal, and meet ethnic groups like the Rai and Sherpa, who have Tibetan roots. The trek will take you to an altitude of 4,900m/16,076ft at Makalu Base Camp, where you can explore the stunning view of towering peaks for a day before retracing your steps back to Tumlingtar. Along the way, you will notice the ethnic diversity as you trek from lower to higher altitudes, with the Rai people inhabiting the lower regions and the Sherpa people of Tibetan roots in the upper regions. The trek ends with a flight back to Kathmandu and an international flight back home, leaving you with memories for a lifetime.
