The Dolpo to Mustang Trek is a 22-day high-altitude trek in Nepal's remote northwestern region. It crosses five high passes and connects Dolpo to the Mustang district, offering an experience of witnessing the preserved Tibetan Buddhist and Bon culture. The trek traverses to the medieval settlements, towering western peaks, and the trans-Himalayan ecosystem of Shey Phoksundo National Park, showcasing bizarre rock formations, vertical cliffs, snow-capped mountains, and fascinating topography. The trail passes by the incomparably beautiful Phoksundo Lake and some of the highest altitude settlements of Nepal, while the Upper Mustang trail gives you a glimpse of the ancient forbidden Buddhist kingdom. The trek ends with a drive to Jomsom and a flight back to Kathmandu via Pokhara.
Throughout the trek, the hikers cross challenging Himalayan trails, rugged and isolated terrain, and the trek's highest point at Ghami La Pass (5,700m/18,701ft). The journey starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, then to Juphal in the north, following the Bheri River in the arid lower Dolpo, passing the Ringmo settlement to Phoksundo Lake. From there, the trek continues west, crossing the Baga La Pass (5,214m/17,107ft), Numa La Pass (5,238m/17,185ft), Jhyarkoi La Pass (5,360m/17,586ft), Mo La Pass (5,035m/16,519ft), and finally Ghami La Pass. The trek offers a perfect blend of adventure, culture, and natural beauty, making it the ultimate off-beat trekking experience in Nepal.
