GOSAIKUNDA

Gosaikunda is a pristine alpine lake situated in the Langtang National Park in the Rasuwa District of Nepal. Nestled at an altitude of around 4,380 meters (14,370 feet), this sacred lake is surrounded by rugged mountains and is a significant pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. According to Hindu mythology, Gosaikunda was created by Lord Shiva, who struck the ground with his trident to obtain water and quench his thirst after consuming poison to save the universe. Every year, thousands of pilgrims trek to Gosaikunda during the Janai Purnima festival, seeking spiritual solace and blessings.

The journey to Gosaikunda is as enchanting as the destination itself, offering breathtaking views of the Langtang Himal range, diverse flora and fauna, and the opportunity to experience the rich culture of the Tamang people. The trek typically starts from Dhunche or Syabrubesi and takes several days through verdant forests, cascading waterfalls, and quaint villages. Despite the challenging terrain and high altitude, the trek is immensely rewarding, attracting adventurers and nature lovers from around the world. Gosaikunda’s serene beauty and mystical significance make it a jewel in Nepal’s array of natural wonders.
